Getting error sco unix 507 from cdrom:no controller for device you chosen

Installing SCO UNIX 507 on Dell Poweredge T610. It has no floppy so I downloaded the BTLD onto CD from SCO site to load without floppy drive. BTLD loads ok. when i get to the Media to be used, no matter what option i chose i get the error: No controller for device you have chosen. During bootup you can see the CDROM on device list with id position, etc.

You really are on your own with this. Try using a USB diskette drive for the BTLD. Reduce the memory to less than 4gb for the install. There is a thread from about a year ago detailing installing 6.0.0 on a similar dual 6 core Intel board, some of the problems there might apply to 5.0.7. http://www.unix.com/302520281-post1.html

USB floppies should all be the same 'kind', so to speak, AFAIK.

In the area of unwanted advice... you may want to consider upgrading to either 6.0.0, http://www.unix.com/302122411-post1.html
or 5.0.7V, although the virtual version is sold as an annual subscription, not a one time purchase. I have also heard that there is going to be a 6.0.0V.

Thanks for the info jgt. unfortunately the system that is going to rest on the sco calls for 507. however i do have 6.o install disk. problem i have is configuring the hard drive partitions. install instructions i have for 507 (to be compatable) shows different setup screen than 6.0 when i get to the section to setup the drive.

The 6.0 install follows the Unixware install instructions, not Openserver. In order to retain the 5.0.7 system calls with the 6.0 install, you may have to select eafs or htfs file systems and not vxfs as it is not supported by 507. There is also an "Openserver compatibilty mode" kernel setting which might need to be turned on for your system calls. If you have Xenix compatible system calls, you may also need to install MP4 for 6.0.0
