During the setup you are asked questions about how the install is to proceed.
You should choose Fresh for install type as opposed to Upgrade.
You should choose Manual, full control/fdisk/divvy, for how the hard drive is to be set up.
Run the badtrk program and select destructive scan.
Allocate about 5gb for the root file system and the balance for /u

syntax:
boot: defbootstr ahslink=mdac Sdsk=mdac(0,0,0,1) disable=[scsi chip driver name]

example:
boot: defbootstr ahslink=mdac Sdsk=mdac(0,0,0,1) disable=DAC960

These machines have a Mylex DAC960 raid adapter in a pci slot. They also have two onboard Adaptec controllers (alad). If you are not using the Adaptec controllers then disable them in the CMOS. If you are using them (for tape or cd) then you can add the scsi.noscan option to the boot string. bootstring(HW)
