Suitable External HDD for Linux RHEL

Hi All,

I am very new to UNIX systems and need your help.

OS: RHEL 5.4(LINUX) 64 bit

I need to get a new external 2TB HDD for transferring data from between linux machines. This HDD will not be used in any windows/MAC servers. Only on UNIX systems(linux/solaris) the USB device is to be used.

When I check out on online sites like Amazon to purchase such a HDD, I can see all are compatible with windows or MAC OS.

Where can I get an external hard disk that is compatible with LINUX box? can the normal HDD listed in online websites(which shows compatible with windows) be used for Linux too?

Thanks,
Bikash

Yes, any of the external HDDs marketed for Windows can be used with Linux. If your proposed physical connection is USB, make sure that you get a USB 3.0 if possible for fastest transfer speeds.
