No package available. Error: Nothing to do

This is yum install error.

I have installed the RHEL 6.3. when I try to install any application it gives message as

ex: sudo yum install "package_name"

No package "package_name" available.
Error: Nothing to do

I have tried with many package_names but it is giving the same issue.

I think I need to add new repos in /etc/yum.conf or /etc/yum.repos.d/

Could anyone guide me to resolve and tell me recommended repositories to be added.

have you tried a

Code:
yum search package

before trying to install?
May you also show us the full output of your commands with a real example?

Hi,

may you try:

Code:
yum --disableexcludes=all search package_name

(don't try an install initially, just to check if you have some exclude directives that prevent you from using some repos).

Also, if you are trying to install R, have you had a look at: http://rstudio.org/download/server in the RedHat/CentOS (5.4+) section?

see ya
