Question Setting Up live FTP Server with Static IP in Red-Hat Linux 6

Hi Guys,

I want to some guidance from you in setting up the Live FTP server in Redhat Linux 6 with Static IP

120.50.150.50.

Now should I set my Static Public IP directly to my Linux machine?
If so what whould be my sunbet mask?
Is any type of natting required here? if so where would that be configured on command line or in Routers GUI?

Thanks.
Please replay to me if you require more information from my side.

All your questions depend on the organization who is hosting the FTP server, their policies, and the network administrator.

Best you check with your network admin.

You can set the public IP on the Linux machine itself, but doing so will need you to buy at least three public IP addresses from your ISP within the same subnet: one for the Linux host, two for the Router.

To avoid this, you can enable NAT on your Router to translate private address of your Linux host to the public address. Here, the IP which you have stated, has to be assigned to the Internet facing NIC of your Router. The subnet mask for this can be obtained from the ISP.

For how to enable NAT on the Router, check your Router's documentation. If it's a Cisco one, I can guide you through.
