Mac OS: Long Delay Before Web Pages Start to Load, Then Load Suddenly at Normal Speed
You type a Web site's domain name system (DNS) name, such as "http://www.apple.com", into your Web browser and press Return. There is a delay that ranges from several seconds up to several minutes, depending on the operating system version and configuration. Then the page loads suddenly at normal speed. However, if you enter a Web site's numerical IP address, such as "http://17.149.160.49", the page loads immediately.
