Check Preferences
You can change the color scheme of terminal in the preferences panel. I am not at home right now, so this might be not be very detailed and I am fairly new to Mac OS X too, but I know it can be done. Bring your terminal window active, and either click on Terminal or File on the title bar and you will see the preferences option. Click through your options and you will find where you can customize the coloring. If you still cannot find it, let me know and I will provide more detail once I am at home.
