NAME
ctype.h - character types SYNOPSIS
#include <ctype.h> DESCRIPTION
Some of the functionality described on this reference page extends the ISO C standard. Applications shall define the appropriate feature test macro (see the System Interfaces volume of IEEE Std 1003.1-2001, Section 2.2, The Compilation Environment) to enable the visibility of these symbols in this header. The following shall be declared as functions and may also be defined as macros. Function prototypes shall be provided. int isalnum(int); int isalpha(int); int isascii(int); int isblank(int); int iscntrl(int); int isdigit(int); int isgraph(int); int islower(int); int isprint(int); int ispunct(int); int isspace(int); int isupper(int); int isxdigit(int); int toascii(int); int tolower(int); int toupper(int); The following are defined as macros: int _toupper(int); int _tolower(int); The following sections are informative. PROLOG
This manual page is part of the POSIX Programmer's Manual. The Linux implementation of this interface may differ (consult the correspond- ing Linux manual page for details of Linux behavior), or the interface may not be implemented on Linux. NAME
iscntrl - test for a control character SYNOPSIS
#include <ctype.h> int iscntrl(int c); DESCRIPTION
The iscntrl() function shall test whether c is a character of class cntrl in the program's current locale; see the Base Definitions volume of IEEE Std 1003.1-2001, Chapter 7, Locale. The c argument is a type int, the value of which the application shall ensure is a character representable as an unsigned char or equal to the value of the macro EOF. If the argument has any other value, the behavior is undefined. RETURN VALUE
The iscntrl() function shall return non-zero if c is a control character; otherwise, it shall return 0. ERRORS
No errors are defined. The following sections are informative. EXAMPLES
None. APPLICATION USAGE
To ensure applications portability, especially across natural languages, only this function and those listed in the SEE ALSO section should be used for character classification. RATIONALE
