Hi all,
What is the best way to make script A be called by any user in the system by just typing "A" in his prompt (he needs no path specification)?
Thanks
Thank u very much...
Since I have many users which will call A, Is it better to add the path to /etc/profile and then export it?
Example (/etc/profile file)
Note that biker said "location". If the script is /usr/bin/A. then you must put /usr/bin in the PATH.
The best approach is to have /etc/profile put only a few directories in PATH. One of these might be "/usr/local/bin". Then as you develop a script called A, you just move or copy A to /usr/local/bin in order to publish it to the users as a whole.
Also putting the current directory in PATH is dangerous although lots of people do it. It's not as bad when you make last as you have done. My personal .profile will scan PATH and remove the current directory if it is present. I find that it's no problem to type "./something" when I need to run something from my current directory.
I'm new to utilities like socat and netcat and I'm not clear if they will do what I need.
I have a "compileDeployStartWebServer.sh" script and a "StartBrowser.sh" script that are started by emacs/elisp at the same time in two different processes.
I'm using Cygwin bash on Windows 10.
