Hi all,

My disk space is 100% full.

df -k <dir> -> 100%

One of my debug files consume huge amount of space and i want to remove the same to start off fresh debugs.

However i'm unable to remove the file giving out the following error message:

rm -f debug.out22621
rm: cannot remove `debug.out22621': No space left on device


Could you all help me out?

rm -f /tmp/debug.out22621

I guess its not allowing any of the operations:

mv debug.out22621 /tmp
mv: writing `/tmp/debug.out22621': No space left on device

Didn't -f switch work ? Else, try looking for the inode number with -i and then remove it.

I tried out the same:

ls -li debug.out22621

22308 debug.out22621


find . -inum 22308 -exec rm -i {} \;
rm: remove regular file `./debug.out22621'? yes
rm: cannot remove `./debug.out22621': No space left on device


Am i doing anything wrong here?

Please run the df command and post the result here. I believe that the problem is one of the file systems other than /tmp but cannot tell you without looking at the result of this command.

It looks like every directory is mounted on the same physical device or disk parititon.
Is there any other paritition in use by your system? One that is not loaded? try mv-ing a file to someplace on the other partition to free up disk space. The df command will show you where all of your mountpoints are.
