Hostname displays incorrectly
hiii,
in many of the linux machines i have tried this but the result is the same everywhere. if there are double letters in a hostname then that is displayed as single letter. e.g. if hostname is set to nepttune then login into the shell will display : NEPTUNE(admin)@/ [20] $ hostname nepttune NEPTUNE(admin)@/ [21] $ uname -n nepttune NEPTUNE(admin)@/ [22] $ even if i do ssh from some other then also it will not display correct hostname with double letters repeating but only single letter. any consequetive double letters are always displayed as single letter. but if u type the command "hostname" or "uname -n" then it will display the correct hostname. can anyone plz tell if there is any solution to this ?

Your correct hostname is what is displayed on running 'hostname' or 'uname -n' commands. Are you using DNS for hostname resolution? If so, then it is probably a mistake on the DNS server.

How do you connect to the server (via telnet/ssh)? Using the IP address directly?
