lp command with compress mode

I want to know whether lp command is having option for setting compess mode in linux.Is it possible to pass escape characters to lp command to set printing in compress mode.

i think there is no option for setting the compressed mode for printing by lp command

lp -d <printername> -o cpi=17 filename
where printername is the name of the printer
and filename is the file to be printed.
Is this lp command can be used for compressed printing in linux..?

I do not understand at all: what do you mean by "compressed printing"?
