Remove GRUB
hello
i just uninstall fedora core 4 and would like to remove the GRUB from my system. i try to use windows xp startup disk and tryout the fixmbr command. however the system warn me that my computer do not have a proper mbr and performing this action may make all partition in my harddisk unaccesible my harddisk was partitioned into 3 partition. is that mean all of these three will be affected? shall i take the risk to do fixmbr? is there any better way to deal with this problem? thanks! |

Hi !
I never used fixmbr, but you can try to start your computer with an Windows9x startup disk (or bootable CD) and after that use fdisk /mbr. This will clear your mbr ![]() In case that you don't have one, go to http://www.bootdisk.com/ and download one ![]() Good luck! |

Using fixmbr from the xp/2000 cd will work just fine for removing (overwriting, anyway) grub, just disregard the warnings as they are intended soley for the purpose of striking fear into the hearts of the budget-concious and technologically-illiterate. Just remember that the Windows bootloader is only capable of booting microsoft operating systems on windows-friendly filesystems. If you intend on using your linux install again, you will need another bootloader.
