Are you using Gnome or XFCE or KDE or...?
Since Mandrake-Linux probably defaults to KDE, use the kcontrol panel to change your keyboard, look under the Regional Settings, Keyboard Layout setting then check under the Country Settings. You might also want to set your locale, on a terminal, just type the command; locale, to change your locale permanently, add the correct locale to the file - .profile. example: export LC_ALL=en_UK.UTF-8 |

Hi!
Thanx for your answer.. I'm using KDE 3.3 In fact my problem comes from synergy (an app that enables one keyboard and one mouse between X computers). The server is running on my winxp, and a client on my linux. I've got my keyboard working almost correctly, except that i can't use the "~" nor the "`" on my unique xp keyboard. Furthermore, when i reboot my linux (init 6) I almost always get a panic, when trying to stop the network.. BTW, i'm french, running a french linux. Here is the output of the locale command: LANG=fr_FR LC_CTYPE=fr_FR LC_NUMERIC=fr_FR LC_TIME=fr_FR LC_COLLATE=fr_FR LC_MONETARY=fr_FR LC_MESSAGES=fr_FR LC_PAPER=fr_FR LC_NAME=fr_FR LC_ADDRESS=fr_FR LC_TELEPHONE=fr_FR LC_MEASUREMENT=fr_FR LC_IDENTIFICATION=fr_FR LC_ALL= Any thing not like it is supposed to be? Another strange issue: my mdk is configured for french, but for example, if i run drakconf (in my MDK10.2) the left panel is in french, the items on the right in english!!!! Any ideas? |

You may need to re run xorgconf or xorgsetup or xorgcfg (whichever you prefer) to setup your keyboard selection correctly, if you are unable to make the changes in your desktop.
Special keyboards may work, and may not, you might have to do some remapping to get extra function keys to work. For your locale, you would want to add export LC_ALL=fr_FR.UTF-8 to the .profile file in your home directory. Did you install the internationalization packages that comes with Mandrake-Linux? It usually is referred to as il8n. Interesting that the French language is not readily used in Mandrake-Linux since Mandrake-Linux is a French Linux distro |
