..yeah, haha, lol, blah blah...

I was responding to the question as to the reason behind the letter G being used in the name, as in why it isn't named BNU (Bnu Not Unix), or CNU (Cnu Not Unix), or even GINU (Ginu Is Not Unix). There's no other reason to particularly use the letter G in the name other than make the recursive acronym an actual word.

..haha, lol, whatever...

the correct way to pronounce GNU is "GNU".

In my opinion it should be pronounced exactly the same as in "Gnu Song" by Flanders and Swann.

I'm sure this has probably been mentioned, but I HIGHLY recommend the DVD entitled "Revolution OS (2002)". It stars Linus Torvalds, Richard M. Stallman, Eric Raymond, Bruce Perens, Larry Augustin, and other key players in the birth of Linux, and the origin and correct pronunciation of GNU, right from Richard Stallman. Buy this DVD, you won't regret it.

You can find it on Amazon, just search for "revolution os". Here is the short description: "REVOLUTION OS tells the inside story of the hackers and computer programmers who rebelled against Microsoft and the idea of proprietary software to create GNU, Linux, and the Open Source movement. Shot on location in Silicon Valley on 35mm film and in widescreen, REVOLUTION OS captures an offbeat group of characters who are three-parts libertarian, two-parts communist, and one-part bad garage band."
