its not that serious. call it whatever you want, as long as other people know what you are talking about. no ones gonna be like "huh?" if you say LiNUKS, or LIE-NUKS, or LEENiX.... haha unless they have never heard of linux period.

yeah i agree with every nixer knows GNU no matter how you pronounce it. I just pronounce it as NEW because if I say Ga New All I can think about is Garry Gnew from the great space coaster when I was a kid and nix is much more complex than a kermit wanna-be!!

How DARE you say linux is cheap! Its better than Unix! <---- running joke there.

But yeah, Um... kind of. Some of the features in Linux surpass those of Unix and vice versa. Not really cheap (as in less effective), but more like difference in tastes. Kinda like, "Do you want RED HAT or AIX, on this cone?"

The G doesn't stand for anything.
The G is there simply to make the acronym an actual word. Gnu is an actual word (name of a type of antelope). Any other letter, and the acronym wouldn't work as a word.

cnu
dnu
enu
fnu
