I think you'll not get answer to your questions here, because our forums are purely technical and not intended for job relevant things, better you try here:

The problem you're having is that even the most "entry-level" unix admin job is NOT an entry level job in reality. It requires quite a bit of knowledge about computers, networking, etc. That is why most companies demand you have a college degree where you were involved with Unix (classes, working in labs, and so on) or else have worked your way up in the I.T. industry getting experience by starting with something like desktop support or help desk.
I don't want to discourage you too much, but if you don't have one of those your odds of getting a Unix admin job at any level are really, really slim. You'd be better off following one of those two suggestions of going to school or getting an entry level I.T. job like helpdesk first. |

That is suprising. Most companies I've worked at have no experience requirement for helpdesk jobs - that is the most entry level IT job there is.
One other tip I'd have is to try sending a resume anyway. It isn't likely anybody with 3 years experience would even consider a helpdesk job. So even without what they say they require you may be the best candidate they find. Also, on your resume or cover letter emphasize what experience you do have - even if it isn't a job. Have you supported computers at your school, for your church, set up machines for family members, whatever? Even if it isn't formal job experience showing you've done a lot of work with computers beyond just hobbyist type stuff may help. |
