New to Unix

How do I connect my internet signal to get firefox browser to function? At present, I get, "page not found" yet all is physically connected and lit.

Can you please copy and paste the results of the three commands

$ uname -a
$ arp -a
$ ifconfig -a

Just need to know where to and how to place the command strings you've provided.

I intend to come up to speed with the unix/linux 'bash' a.s.a.p. I really am starting to enjoy the command line.

what OS are you running? AIX,HP-UX,Solaris?
Just from your shell prompt/commandline you can run those commands as root user and post the output
