Lost Connectivity to the Internet

I'm running FreeBSD 6.2 and suddenly lost connectivity to the net. After unplugging the router and checking all the connections I could find nothing wrong. All the driver software seems to be intact. I thought I would remove the driver software and restore it. However, when I go to root and type

kldunload if_my.ko

it says there is no such file. However, I'm in /boot/kernel and I can see it right there. Any ideas why it won't let me remove it? Thanks.

Why do you think that removing the module would help ? Did you try bringing down && up the eth0, asking the local net admin, calling ISP, ping, traceroute ?

I thought removing and then re-installing the driver might help. Actually, I tried both kldload and kldunload and both commands came back with "no such file" yet all the while the Ethernet driver (if_my.ko) was visible right there in /boot/kernel. Furthermore, the /boot/loader.conf file has if_myk_load="YES" so was loading at boot. Ping & traceroute didn't work; however, the other computers on my network worked so it wasn't the router or the ISP's fault. I didn't try eth0 though.

Finally, I reinstalled 6.1 and everything works fine now. Perhaps bringing down and up eth0 would have worked. If this happens again I'll try that. I'm a Unix newb, so all this chaos and frustration is good training.

I'm not used to *BSD, but in linux, when you try to load a kernel moule with "modprobe" (which I think is equivalent to kld[un]load), you must not use the module's file name. Instead, just its name.
Try to "kldunload if_my"
Anyway, I agree sysgate. A priori, there's no need to do so IMO.
Please, post the output of:
ifconfig -a
netstat -r

Regards.

In *BSD environment the ".ko" extension is a must. In such cases, for better tracing, the "-v" may be used - more verbose, but Aaron solved his issue with re-installing the BSD.
