Private network
Hi all,
Currently we are in the progress of setting up a private network on all of our Sun Solaris servers. Purpose is to move all backup tasks to the private, hence reduce load on public network. Some of our servers only consists of 1 network card but with several ports. Shall we purchase another card or we can configure a public ip and also a private ip on the same network card? Thanks a lot. |

Grial just to complete what you mentioned.
This can be done in fully switched networks (depending on HW) . The single interface can be vlan tagged for multiple vlans with a shared connection between the host and the switch. The switch then separates the vlan paths and routes accordingly. |

Thanks reborg. I knew one phisical interface could be used to configure several "logical" interfaces from the point of view of a UNIX server. I, as you've suggested, was talking about switches and that's what i wasn't sure about. Thanks again and regards.

Thanks guys.
The port here I'm refering to is places where we plug in the network cable. For example: 1 NIC card consist of 4 ports, which means I can plug 4 different network cable into it. Does this means that under these 4 ports I can configure different IP and direct to different switch? Thanks. |
