Question Network

I'm on bellsouth.net through a Win98 box with a USB DSL modem. I have the Win98 box set up for Internet Connection Sharing. Other Win boxes can surf, download, ftp, and other things through this setup.
I have set up a Solaris 8 Intel box and have got the networking somewhat working. I can ping by IP or name from the solaris box. However, Netscape will not connect. It looks for awhile and then times out. I cannot ftp either such as from ftp.suse.com. It times out also.

/etc/resolv.conf contains .........

"nameserver XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX" bellsouth DNS servers
"nameserver XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX"

/etc/nsswitch.conf has .............

"hosts files dns"

/etc/defaultrouter has ..............

"xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx" IP of Win98 box

/etc/hosts has ..........................

xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx win98_box

What am I missing and how do I fix it.

Thanks

win98 box

how have you set up your windows 98 box. ??
you could have done it liek transparant proxy or a normal proxy in that case you need to add your proxy details in netscape.

Success:

I did some searching on the web and found that I needed to turn the Win98 box connected to the net into a proxy server. I found a program called AnalogX Proxy that works great.

Thanks for the posts.
