Cannot ping hostname of centos server in windows xp

Hi,

I am a newbie in this area. I have the following setup.

On my laptop I have installed
Centos linux is a the client in vmware
host is winxp professional
I have linksys router with dns enabled (ip address 192.168.1.1)
The centos server has the following ip: 192.168.1.31 (got from the router)

vmware : network adapter ->bridged
Hostname is vm-oracle10
/etc/hosts entry is 127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost vm-oracle10
/etc/resolv.conf -> nameserver 192.168.1.1
ping vm-oracle10 gives 127.0.0.1
dig vm-oracle10 gives no answer section result only the question section
dig 192.168.1.31 gives both

evrything works fine. I can use firefox for browsing .

Only the hostname cannot be resolved in

Please help, it is small but irritating that it is not working...

Henk

What is the output from nslookup when you try to resolve the hostname?
