Cannot ping hostname of centos server in windows xp
Hi,
I am a newbie in this area. I have the following setup. On my laptop I have installed Centos linux is a the client in vmware host is winxp professional I have linksys router with dns enabled (ip address 192.168.1.1) The centos server has the following ip: 192.168.1.31 (got from the router) vmware : network adapter ->bridged Hostname is vm-oracle10 /etc/hosts entry is 127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost vm-oracle10 /etc/resolv.conf -> nameserver 192.168.1.1 ping vm-oracle10 gives 127.0.0.1 dig vm-oracle10 gives no answer section result only the question section dig 192.168.1.31 gives both evrything works fine. I can use firefox for browsing . Only the hostname cannot be resolved in ![]() Please help, it is small but irritating that it is not working... Henk |
