Question How to change ROOT password.

Hi, we have a HP-UX server of model 9000/800/rp4440. We have been trying to reset the root password but are in vain.I used the following command and also are the outputs which i have received.

# passwd
Changing password for root
New password:
Re-enter new password:
Unexpected failure. Password file unchanged.
#

# passwd root
Changing password for root
New password:
Re-enter new password:
Unexpected failure. Password file unchanged.
#

Kindly suggest.
If you need any info just ask.

Run pwck and correct any error it finds in the passwd file. If it still fails tell us which version of HP-UX you have, whether you have a /etc/shadow file or not and whether or not the system is in trusted mode. Also post the passwd line and group line from /etc/nsswitch.conf.

Try SAM

try to reset the password from SAM tool, it my help u.... many times helped me...!
