Install HP UX

Hey whats up all of you pro's i have one question for you im not to familiar with HP UX 11i, but i would like to load it on my home machine. I am sure this is a dumb question but is there any special hardware requirements. I have reloaded the sysem at my work on a L class 9000 well not exactly by my self but i am very interested in learing the in's and out's of hp systems and my job is to dam cheep to send me for training.

I also was interested in purchaseing a Unix workstation but on hp's website the dam things are 5,000.00+ dollars. if there are certin hardware requirements could sombody point me in the right direction as far as what i would need to purchase to build my own system.

Thanks
B. Butler

As far as the hardware requirements, HP-UX currently only runs on hp9000 systems. You have to use HP hardware, sorry.

But keep your eye out on eBay and similar sites - I bought a decent old HP workstation on eBay a few months back for 25 bucks, US dollars. After shipping, I had bought a killer workstation for about $40.

Not really, as long as it runs HP-UX. I have seen a good number of very affordable 715/80 and 715/100 machines up; just make sure to check the description to make sure HP-UX runs on it - many come with it pre-installed (Mine came with 10.20).

Most of the systems I've seen on eBay come with HP-UX installed, but you may be able to get your hands on some media through HP if you need to. If you get the system, please post back, and I'll help you find it.

LivinFree is very correct HPUX 11.i only runs on a few types of HPUX specific hardware, the V, L, N, Keystone and Superdome Classes of boxes.

HPUX 11.0 will run on some workstations depending on the versions, however, HPUX 10.x versions are very good for training and learning.

Its kind of like buying an old 200MHZ PC to run Linux on. I actually have a 200MHZ box that runs Mandrake on 98MB of memory and 8Gig harddrive!

Look out for auctions in your area. Some government agencies and local municipalities sell old systems.

Good luck! I hope you find something that will help you.
