For loop

What is the equivalent for loop in HP Unix

for (i=0;i<$1;i++) ? (it is for Linux and working)

it must be something started with;

for i in .... ?

What shell is this for? On HP-UX, you are most likely to use ksh, so use this:

i=0;
while [ $i -lt $1 ]; do
## do whatever you need
i=$(($i+1))
done

I also suggest assigning $1 to a better named variable, so that when it comes to maintaining the script you can have an easier job.

I just added : i=`expr $i+1`

Code:

i=0
while [ $i -lt $1 ]
do
  i=`expr $i+1`
   $2
   done

try this:
sum=0
for num in 1 1 1 1
do
let sum=sum+num
done
echo $sum
