If you have connected the device when the system was powered on, then you may have to execute

ioscan
insf # This will create device files for the newly detected device.

If you can not see it still, then you will need to investigate why [ connections, scsi parameters etc .... ]

Regards,

Kaps

hi Kapil,

I'm new in this forum also.
Actually i encounter the same problem.

For my case, i use the DAT24 tape driver.
When search using " ioscan " command, it's return

H/W Path Class Description
====================================================
10/0/15/0.2.0 unknown HP C1537A

When use " ioscan -fnC tape " command
It's return nothing. ( At my the other workstation which is working OK should return eg /dev/rmt/0m ).
Swap tape drive to good workstation. Working OK.

Suspect is workstation related but do not know how to solve.
Please help me for solving this problem.

Thanks in advance...

Amy

Hello Amy,

which workstation do you use? Have you checked that you connected the drive on the same type of scsi card, which you have in the other workstation? Do you have the same release of hp-ux on both workstation? Do you have the same patch release?

In some cases, when i have connected a drive to an server ( mostly on hp a-class servers), i have to reboot the server cause in ioscan and insf i did not see the drive.

May you try to connect the drive, switch it on and after that, reboot your workstation.

Regards,

Frank
