LVM PE. Best practice

Hi everyone.
Unfortunately I can't find advice's about LVM Physical Extent for HPUX.
As far as I know we can set for 1PE size from 1MB to 256 MB. But in what cases it should be different? Maybe exist any strict rules, requirements or any best practice?

Hi,

It does not affect performance, but the choice does affect the maximum size of the VG and the LV's (maximum number of PE's x maximum PE size). So a large PE size ensures you can scale large enough, but it also means that volume groups and logical volumes will need to be extended with the granularity (steps) of the PE Size (or n times this size in the case of LVM striping) . In my experience the default of 4 MB is usually too small and it is better to pick a large PE size for future expansions..
