parameter list too long

Hi

When i say ls * (HP-UX 11.11)in a particular directory it says

sh: /usr/bin/ls: The parameter list is too long.

Can somebody help me how to resolve this problem.

Try "ls" without the "*"

ls work's I know that but when I want to search for a specific pattern [a*] or anything else it fail's


I came to know that there is a kernel parameter which can resolve this problem do anyone know about this kernel parameter
