sending and updating a file over network

If a file resides in a perticular cilents computer and he wants to transfer the file to intermidiate server through which the file will be transfered to other server where
that file will processed.

how to frequently update and transfer the file

Can anyone throw light on this.

I've heard about the rsync command but never tried it ...
