Data Cannot get out of the sponsord link ad - redirect loop

I'm unregistered, and I got a link to a topic show up via a Google search.

When I clicked on the link I went to

http://www.unix.com/advertisement.php?url=http://www.unix.com/showthread.php?t=169939

Where all I saw was a banner:

Sponsored Links
Welcome to The UNIX and Linux Forums Sponsored by IDGTechNet

You are Welcome to Register as a Forum Member to Remove All Sponsored Ads

with a countdown timer followed by 'Click here if your browser does not automatically redirect you'

Well - it doesn't redirect - the timer counts down from 12 to -1 and then starts at 12 again.

The 'Click here...' resolves to http://www.unix.com/aix/169939-nim-client-boot-problem.html, but clicking it just gets me back to http://www.unix.com/advertisement.php?url=http://www.unix.com/showthread.php?t=169939 and the never-ending timer.

Right clicking and opening another tab or window just gets me back to http://www.unix.com/advertisement.php?url=http://www.unix.com/showthread.php?t=169939 and the never-ending timer.

Opening a new tab or window and manually entering http://www.unix.com/aix/169939-nim-client-boot-problem.html just gets me back to http://www.unix.com/advertisement.php?url=http://www.unix.com/showthread.php?t=169939 and the never-ending timer.

Trying just http://www.unix.com gets me http://www.unix.com/advertisement.php?url=http://www.unix.com/ and the never-ending timer.

BTW - I did try an internal search, as requested. Don't know if any results would have helped, because any I clicked on just got me http://www.unix.com/advertisement.php?url=http://www.unix.com/showthread.php?t=###### and the never-ending timer....

Hello.

I have been unable to replicate this problem.

May I ask which browser you were using? Did you try an alternative one? Do you have cookies disabled?

Same here, I cannot reproduce the problem ... I just tested it and it worked fine. Could easily go to the page by clicking on the link; and the timer worked as well.

Tested with FF and Chrome, FYI.

Just tested it using Safari and it worked fine with Safari as well; the timer count down worked perfectly; hence I can't reproduce the problem reported with FF, Chrome or Safari.

Re: Cannot get out of the sponsored link ad - redirect loop

Well - being unregistered means I can't reply in the topic, so any exchanges are going to result in a hard-to-track proliferation of threads.

Browser is IE. Haven't tried another.

Yes I block cookies.

I block ads.

I block scripts.

I block absolutely everything I can - I don't want adverts, I don't want sites running scripts, I don't want cookies, I don't want anybody to track me, remember me, profile me or target me.

And I don't get this problem on other sites where I only want to read.

If you don't want ads.. you must register.

This is our long standing rules and policy. We serve zero ads to registered users (unlike many sites to serve ads to everyone, we only serve ads to non-registered users).

If you block scripts, code, cookies, etc. this site will not run properly and we are not going to rebuild the entire site because one user out of millions blocks cookies, ads, scripts, etc. and then complains because the site does not work.

If you don't want to register (be and part of our community), and don't want ads, and don't want any scripts, then this is not the site for you, I'm sorry to tell you.

Best of luck.
