i am new in solaris,i not have great know in this operative system
Help me how i can fixed this, in the machine has installed Solaris

Snoop perl script

Hi ,

I would like to write a perl script with the snoop command to capture packets from a specific IP address to a node (incoming packets) and packets from that node for the same session to another node and save the capture to a file. I would like my script to be able to read my IP all the time from the keyboard. I would like also to be able to determine for how how long the script should run. Let's say 60 seconds and then kill the snoop process after that period. Below is an example of the command.

snoop -o /tmp/snooper -V 128.50.1.250

let's say my snoop is called snoop1. I would like to be able to execute that way: ./snoop1 128.50.1.250 60.......where the 128.50.1.250 is the ip I want to capture the packets from and 60 the amount of time I want the script to run and then kill the snoop process.

df command always return 0%

Hi, I don't know why but about 80% of time when I execute the command
"df -v /directory" the output is always 0% used. Anyone have clue to why this is happening? Thanks.

Solaris 10 and DELL TL-2000 Tape Library with ISCSI

i am trying to get following configuration up running, but get no access to the library roboter.

Server: SunOS 5.10 Generic_138889-03 i86pc i386 i86pc
DELL TL-2000: 1 Tape: IBM ULT3580-HH4 and Robot: 3573-TL,
connected via ISCSI Bridge (build into the TL)

Backup software: bacula

i see both iSCSI connections:
(sudo iscsiadm list discovery-address -v)

ok, so the tape device was created but not the library robot, but why?
why is not at the second iscsi id the vendor name and device name presented?

i do not have a device /dev/sg* and no directory /dev/scsi.

So i looked for information about sg and libraries, found some infos about the files /kernel/drv/sgen.conf and /kernel/drv/st.conf and define there the name="sgen" ... and "st" ...

Can make a (sudo mt -f /dev/rmt/0 status) but get no information because no tape is loaded.

Rebooted the server, but still no library.

Do i need a special device driver? There is the IBM devdrv site, aber no file for SUN Solaris 10 on intel386 - only x64 ... bad ...

btw: where do i find a installable version of mtx for Solaris 10 i386 ?

ILOM event logs

Hello

I have a server Sun Fire X4250. Few days ago I take a look to ILOM -> System Monitoring -> log events.

I saw some lines that I don't understand, for example:

5800 Chassis Action major Oct 30 23:58:35 2009 Hot insertion of /SYS/DBP/HDD12
5799 Chassis Action major Oct 30 23:58:27 2009 Hot removal of /SYS/DBP/HDD12

And there are many lines like this, with differents HD (total: 15) but most of the lines are referred to HD8 and HD12.

"Hot insertion" I want to believe that it doesn`t means a phisical insertion/removal... but, what it means???.

Setting memory and cpu limitation for a process

Hi Experts,

I have a process on my running server. Now I want to set a memory and cpu usage limitation for that process. I googled it but am not getting required thing.

Please explain in brief, that how to start a process with resource limitation and if the process is already running then how to increase the limitation.

I hope, experts will help me make this task complete.

WAS7 migration, port not persisted on S10

Hi all.

So, im upgrading from WAS6 to WAS7 on S10 containers and am running in to a problem.

Although i can successfully complete a migration (or so i thought) when i come to start the servers it bombs outs. This is because for some reason the migration process does not migrate the nodeagent ports....its sets them all to '0'....very annoying,

Anyone come across this before?

BTW, this is running on S10 (currently on T2000) and its WAS7 FP7. The WAS product is installed on the global zone and the WAS profiels are on the local containers.

I have 2 queries:
1.how do we monitor failed GUI logins...? I think the /var/adm/loginlog will log
only failed logins happened at /dev/console and virtual terminals..
2.How to use cron scheduler to display a message when a user is working in GUI Terminal window irrespective of in which terminal he is working..? Also, is there any tool to provide a popup message via cron scheduler while a user is in GUI mode?

How to kill the TCP ESTABLISHED connection in netstat

Hello,

Actually there are some bugs in application which does not close the TCP connection to other server though CORBA.

We need to kill that ESTABLISHED connections as new connection are not happeneing as the allocated ports were used and showing as ESTABLISHED

Is there any command in UNIX (sun solaris 5.9) to kill the connection that can seen while doing the following

netstat -an |grep

I am unable to find the process which started the connection using ps -ef hecnce i cant use kill -9

please help

Three questions - migrating to branded zone

1. i read that VxFS (3.x) installed on a solaris 8 will not work on a branded zone. fair enough, but what is the impact of having the packages installed when the flarcreate is done? will the container fail to boot with those packages installed?

2. NTP client and server doesnt work on branded zone - does the container still get its time from the system clock?

set-tmp-permission service is not running in Netra CCMP3060 blade server

In my Solaris 10 - Netra CP3060, the following particular script is not running:
lrc:/etc/rc2_d/S00set-tmp-permissions
lrc:/etc/rc2_d/S07set-tmp-permissions
Above script is to set the default permission of /tmp & /var/tmp while rebooting if it found any inconsistencies. I changed the file permission of /tmp and rebooted my server. As the above scripts are not running, it shouldn't change the file permission to default. But the file permission changed after reboot.

Please let me know is there any other service running related to this in my server. Was this script incorporated in SMF facility, if so whats that service name?

ICMP Multicast & Broadcast settings

My system is configured in such a way to respond for ICMP broadcast and multicast requests from outside our network. Below command will give the details:

It means currently it is enabled to respond to ICMP broadcast and multicast requests.
Command to get system interface broadcast address is ifconfig –a and command to get system interface multicast address is arp –a.

Purpose of RPC program numbers?

Whats the purpose of the following RPC program numbers:

Why the above program numbers were not listed in /etc/rpc file?
Is it dynamically assigned? These program numbers doesnt persist after rebooting the system. If any of the service is using this program number then why the service name is not getting populated in rpcinfo -s output?
