What is faster? Solaris 10 or OpenSolaris?

For a high performance fileserver, what's the faster solution?

Directory size larger than file system size?

Hi,

We currently have an Oracle database running and it is creating lots of processes in the /proc directory that are 1000M in size. The size of the /proc directory is now reading 26T. How can this be if the root file system is only 13GB?

I have seen this before we an Oracle temp file was 64GB in size on a file system that was 20GB in size, and the file system reported 7GB free at the time?

Can someone please shed some light on this.

How to clone enter harddisk on Sun Sparc20?

Hi mates,

well before posting my problem, i really searched hi and low for some ideas, but sad to say none of them worked, including dd command.

My problem is that i have 2 harddisk, 1 in use and 1 for spare. The one im using got crashed and now im using my spare harddisk with all the engraver and rip software in it.

I would like to clone the good harddisk to this new harddisk that i got. Just in case another crash happens.

The only thing i can share is that i have a SunSparcstation 20. please refer to the attach for the system. And by the way i don't have a CD rom installed.

anyhelp would do. and please if you need other info please do let me know.

In Sun Solaris 10, not able to create the key. JDK 1.6 Installed & PATH & JAVA_HOME both are referred to jdk 1.6. It is showing the belwo error

Error: wrap() failed

Spawn Not Found

I need to run the spawn command but when I typed it in, I got
"ksh: spawn: not found".

So, I downloaded spawn-fcgi but it required to be compiled first. The compile failed when I tried it. I need a copy that's ready to be used.

Unix system info:
OS: Sun Solaris 2.8
Shell: ksh

Does anyone know where I can download spawn for my system?

Network writes contantly spiking in throughput

Hey guys

First post... and im not exactly a solaris guru but here goes

Ive setup a solaris 10 box with a raidz2 set of 6 disks...

I have also setup Samba with open shares for some CIFs access...

now my issue is that when i transfer large files to it the network performance contantly spikes at about 40% of the GB connection and then plummets to 0% and keeps doing that contantly ( goes up then down every 4 seconds or so ) - This is from a windows box and ive tried multiple boxes

I did some read tests from it and i dont see the same problem... guessing a buffer problem or something?

Im running an ABIT il-90mv MB which has an integrated Intel 82573L GB network adapter... its running the normal e1000g driver...

any help would be massively appreciated as im trying to get some decent centralized storage at home...

host cannot see FC disks

Have a V440 server which we need to connect up to a SE6140. Did the zoning on the 3900 brocade silkworm and did mapping from the array to the host manually host initiator did not autodetect the wwn and had to key in manually. probe-scsi-all cannot show the fc disks. What is the problem here?

What should be hostname for second network interface?

Hi All,

I am having a sun server. The primary network interface is having name "sun1" and IP address "192.168.2.10". Now when I add second network interface with different IP address "10.1.1.100" and same hostname, it doesn't work.

What I want to know is that should the second interface having different hostname like IP address or can any one tell me how to configure second network interface with different IP address...

IPMP Configuration

Dear All,

I have configured IPMP in one of my SUN machine which is having solros 9 version. I have updated all files like /etc/hosts,/etc/hostname.ce0 and /etc/hostname.ce1 and rebooted the server. But IP's are not mounted which i have given in /etc/hosts file.

Please find the below ifconfig output and help me to resolve this issue.

How to sequence cron jobs?

Hello all,
I have 3 scripts that I have to run using cron tab and 2 scripts are dependent on the first script.

How do I schedule cron jobs such that 2nd job follows first and 3rd follows 2nd.

For example, I have 3 jobs - job1, job2 and job3, that have to run every 3 hours.

I want the jobs to run in the following order.
If job1 is successful, run job2
If job2 is successful, run job3.

Will this work?

Performance check without a counterpart

Hi,

is it possible to check out the speed limits of a box without a remote peer for netio and stuff?

I transferred 1 Terrabyte last night, which is not really much and need to find the bottleneck. The remote server is soon going to retire, yet I need to copy the 8T to the new machine. This will take at least a week with such speed!

In our server, we installed bea 10.3. We are pointing to new jdk 1.6 of bea. But the sun solaris server, it is taking java version "1.5.0_07" by the solaris one. We have generate the key using jdk 1.6 of (jce jar). We are not able to create the keys. The Exception is

We changed in the path & java_home in Solaris. But it's not reflecting at the time of executing the sh script.
