The Knoppix bootup screen should have the version number on it.

Did you look in /etc for a possible knoppix-version txt file?

There is definitely an /etc/knoppix-version file... it will give you something like

Code:
$ more /etc/knoppix-version
3.6 2004-08-16

As knoppix is based upon Debian there is also an /etc/debian-version file....

Cheers
