build kernel ,question?

# cd /usr/src/sys/i386/conf
# cp GENERIC LOVEPP
# cd /usr/src
# make buildkernel KERNCONF=LOVEPP
make:don't know how to make buildkernel. Stop

Any suggestions?
(I am using Freebsd4.8)
