Unable to access to p5 9131 AIX system

Hi,

I am very newbie with AIX system.
I have changed the default IP address 192.168.2.147 of HMC1 to our LAN IP address. I can ping to the new ip address but unable to access to ASMI again with the new ip address. Is there a way that I can connect to the console or can reset to the default IP address?

Please help!!!

Thanks,
L

Hello,
Have you try other ASMI port (HMC2)? Default address is 192.168.3.147...
Good luck.

What browser are you using? The connection to the ASMI port, when not using an HMC as proxy must be using so-called "low-grade" https (aka 40-bit encryption). This is a known issue with Power5, but was easy to get around with Firefox - until version 19 came out. FF, like IE, Omega and Chrome (the ones I have checked) have all removed support for 40-bit encryption. FF forums say it is for a better user interface (they were having troubles explaining low-grade encryption).
Actually, I was expecting to read that 40-bit was not safe enough to support - but they forget one premise of Security is Availability. And making something unavailable is also a security breach.
Anyway, I have resolved my issue by downloading FF 17.esr as this is going to be supported for a while (while v18 is not - that became v19).

Here is a link to v17.esr
Better is perhaps a link to all releases

Remember to turn off automatic updates, or like I, you will find yourself with a version that no longer supports 40-bit encryption. Also remember to check for updates - because with updates turned off, you will not be notified that there is a new update (as I just noticed, while writing this, that 17.esr has been updated).

OK - you have the browser - but it still is not working?

Last steps:
enter about:config in the URL, and say yes (i.e., I'll be careful, I promise) to warning.
in the search bar type: 40_md5
This should give two values - by default both are false. Toggle them to true (they turn bold) and try to access your page again.

Hope this helps!

Hi Citroen, I did try but did not work.

Hi MichaelFelt, I used IE 8 and FF 12. just upgraded to 17 but still get the same error
" Cannot communicate securely with peer: no common encryption algorithm(s).
(Error code: ssl_error_no_cypher_overlap)

Thanks.

did you find the two settings in about:config and set those to true?
p.s. ff12 should have worked, but there have been issues, especially with the HMC since FF4 was released. (sigh)

Hi Michael, I am sorry that I skip about:config part Smilie. It works now. You're super Smilie. Thanks very much!!!
Can I ask you more questions about this p5 system?
1. I saw the amber light (system attention light) - what does that mean?
2. I try to connect to the serial port (front panel), connected but nothing is displayed back. Did I miss anything?

Thanks again.

I have never used to front panel serial port. Use the one in the back. Speed is 19200 baud, not 9600.

The amber light means "something happened", e.g., the power cord was pulled before it was completely in OFF state. To turn this off in ASMI:
