GUI in AIX

Is there a way to install GUI in AIX. I`m using putty(AIX), needed a GUI to use dbua for Oracle upgrades. I know xclock works in linux by installing some packages along with it. Is there a similar way for AIX as well?

Yes, there are even two different GUIs: DCE an AIXWindows. But like you phrase it you probably need neither of these. You might want to read this for a quick introduction to X-Windows workings.

I hope this helps.

Hi, I think bakunin meant CDE (rather than DCE) if you want to go searching for more info ;0)

Hi bakunin

I have folder on unix(AIX) - /usr/lib/X11

I used export display=ipaddress:0.0 (my windows machine), ran the xming on windows

Hit dbua on AIX, system says that display not set.

Am I doing something wrong?

Is X11 actually running, though?

if AIX is the client the safest connection is using X11 forwarding together with an ssh client.

enable X11 forwarding in /etc/ssh/sshd_config and after restarting the ssh daemon you should be good to go.

X11 is enabled in /etc/ssh/sshd_config, however the display variable I set is of my windows machine. Is that good, I have AIX in my putty session.

@Corona688

May I know how to run X11, I`m new to AIX. I`m familiar with xclock in linux.
