sorry if I am stating the obvious but try to set xhost + , afterwards
export DISPLAY=ipadress:0 (are you sure this is 0 and not 1 - my xserver on windows tends to vary between 0 and 1)
once done try xclock & - if it fails please post the exact errors

Hi Folks

Finally did it, using reflection X using xterm.

I set export display=localmachine:1.0

>xclock

on putty AIX used dbua.

Everything is working fine

when you have putty set up to use X11 forwarding you will not need to export your display.
I am fighting with my tablet or I would say more. find a putty expert ifyou have difficulties.

CDE is the AIX common desktop environment for those interested.
