AIX Growing Files
Hi Everybody,
I want to know the names & locations of the common AIX files which it's size keep growing. I think there is a procedure to clean these files to avoid the space overflow, I wish also if anybody can tell me what is the proper procedure to make more available space. Another issue, that I noted on my system AIX 4.3. I noted that used space of the FileSystem /var always increasing, what is exactly the files that can be removed to reduce the used space from this FileSystem? Or should I expand this FileSystem each time the used space reached above 90% or 95%? Note also I asked if there is a solution other than restarting the server? I hope you can help me guys to understand these issues? |

Hi.
I really hope that you have found an solution by now, but I can provide a little from my experience if there is anyone else outthere with the same problem. If you have old entries for tty:s in your /etc/inittab you can experience that your /var/adm/wtmp is growing rapidly. This is my solution: First get rid of all the old information in the /etc/inittab, and then add a line in /var/spool/cron/crontabs/root that will empty the /var/adm/wtmp. 0 5 * * 6 /usr/sbin/acct/nulladm /var/adm/wtmp This line will empty /var/adm/wtmp at five o'clock each Saturday. If you have a lot of users login in to the system and if you have a lot of printjobs from the system, this processes also needs space under /var. Well, I hope someones getting some help from this....
