PowerHA6

I want to configure HA 6. I have 2 nic cards of 2 ports each. Can i create 2 ether channels and configure it in a way so that my boot ip and persistent ip will be on 2 different ether channels.

Hi,
yes you can if you want but there is no real need any more to have both.

You should be thinking in terms of boot IP address.

Since HACMP/PowerHA 5.X the correct term has been service/non-service IP addresses (when using IP aliasing, versus the HACMP 4.X and earlier standard of IP address "replacement".

The difference between a persistent address and a service address is that a persistent address is node bound while a service is not node bound - a service address is resource group bound.

Using/documenting a PowerHA cluster using the term "boot" only leads to confusion.

Yes, you can create etherchannels - but do not let an adapter become a SPOF (maybe I read wrong, but I am unsure if you have 2 NIC with 2 ports each per server, or 2 servers with 1 NIC and 2 ports each. If 2 NICS per server, 2x etherchannel is fine (great even!), otherwise - not advised -- Just make sure it is one port each from each NIC.

Hope this helps!

I have assigned 2 nic cards to each lpar and nic card having 2 ports. I have db running on one lpar and app on the other. The each lpar is having one ether channel of ent0 and ent2 of two different nic card ports. Ha is configured with this single etherchannel. Now when fail over happens we feel the performance is a bit slow.
So what i want to try is create another ether channel with ent1 and ent3 and reconfigure ha in a way so that my service ip of the failing server will sit on this new etherchannel means my lpar1 service ip will be on etherchannel 4 and after failover my lapr2 service ip will be on etherchannel 5 of the lpar1.

Now my question is it possible to do so?

HA does not care if an interface is virtual eg,, from PHYP, or a normal port, or virtualized as an etherchannel. SO, basically, if you can imagine it, HA should support it.

YOu just need to be sure that the correct policy is specified to spread the service addresses over as many interfaces as possible.

By the way, when assigning physical adapters, rather than SEA, it is still expected that you have two adapters with an address From memory, the only supported single port configuration is when the vethernet adapter is supported by dual VIOS and SEA failover.

HOpe this helps.
