IBM Power Pseries Open Firmware boot / VIOS POWERVM VET CODE

Hello,

I installed PowerVM IVM Virtual I/O on P-550 but later found out that the machine isn't activated for CoD VET code for virtualization.

So when booted , it goes into OPEN Firmware

I/O Hosting requires a hosting partition boot not permitted exit called
> ok

Panel shows > IO Hosting

> ok
> boot disk
....error messages
> boot cd
....error messages

On the control panel i cannot go to 08 -- Fast shutdown of machine
I can only change 1,2,4,11,20

the question: How can I reboot the machine without pulling the power cords ?

This is how CoD on ASMI looks like to enable PowerVM IVM Virtual I/O VIOS for the machine

does web based asmi work?

https://serviceprocessor_ipaddress

login with userid admin, i think the default password is abc123, or admin.

From the web interface you can reboot system, or shutdown, etc.

Thank you Michael. You are right, it never crossed my mind to go through ASMI and restart.

re: your other story - sounds as if you have been very busy!

I would only add that if you are not seeing console AFTER doing the ASMI reset you might have a motherboard issue.

Happy New Year!
