AIX does not boot after power on

We have a RS6000, model B50, type 7046, where I installed AIX 4.3.3
But, if the power goes off, the operating system does not restart,
and I have to go there and push the button to start AIX again.
Is there any way this procedure to be avoided,
this is, I want the AIX to start automatically when power comes back.
Thanks. Sebastian.

Never heared of such a function for old machines.

You either have a data center with redundant power supply or UPS so that the boxes can recognize that there is a power loss and can close databases, umount FS'es and so on etc. ie. shutdown cleanly before the power capacity of the UPS's is also depleted.

Since HMC you can power on/off and reboot via HMC. Not sure if your box can be attached to one or if you have a HMC at all.

On the other hand if the power off is produced by you, you might just reboot with "shutdown -Fr" for example instead of just "shutdown -F" or something like that.

Thans, mr Zaxxon - but my very old PC at home reloads its Guindous after power comes back, so I expected the RS6000 to do similar ... jejeje
We have no UPS by now, I dont use HMC console (yet) and the power off is NOT produced by me, but by the building owner ...
Thanks for the "shutdown" command flag - I use it quite often (at Linux) ...

You can try to get a manual for this box online - maybe there is something about behaviour with power issues ie. maybe there is a feature in it's SMS menu (firmware/bios).

Oh and no need to sound cheeky - since you did not supply more details I have to asume the worst Smilie No offense.

Well - from the most absolute darkness, I am moving towards the light : there is something called "SMS menu", similar to BIOS/firmware

Just one last question : how do I get into it ?
Guess I have to re-boot the machine and some "early" menu ???

Yes, I have the handbook, and it is online :

"RS/6000 7046 Model B50 Handbook"
>>> http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/redbooks/pdfs/sg247046.pdf

I promise to read it !

By the way, mr Zaxxon - I have been learning english ... for more than 20 years, but the word "cheeky" was in not in my vocabulary (yet) - you did not assume we are not all "native english speakers" ...

In spanish we say "sin acritud"

>>> acritud - Diccionario Ingles-Español WordReference.com

ACRIMONY !!! ???

Have a nice weekend you all !

Dear sebastia.net,

please be a bit more kind when writing. No I am no native english speaker myself and I do not assume that from everybody here in this forum.
Yes, a bit less "sin acritud" might be helpful in our conversation.

My purpose here is to help, not to show off or offend others - there are always better people and there are always new things to learn for anyone.
If you are offended because I also write "newbie" suggestion for commands like shutdown that you already knew for decades, then maybe you could try to see that from a point of other people, that try to help and do not know the person on the other side.
