Sure, just restore the mksysb you took before installing the APAR, simple.

You did take a mksysb before mucking about with your OS install didn't you!

If not then please give a good reason for:
a, Why you did not back up the system first.
b, Why you should keep your job :-)
c, Why you thought you could "just install an APAR and see what happens" with no backup / roll back strategy.

I hope this is not a production system you have compromised.

These days, why did you install an APAR at all, not the whole TL or SP as is the preferred (and tested) update strategy preferred by IBM?

Hi,

- if you have an alt_rootvg (from alt_disk_install) - boot from the other disk (my preferred method, I have no root access on the nimservers AND it's the fastest backout anyway - if you don't have spare disks but a mirrored rootvg, you can always temporarily unmirror and use these disks).

- if it is an efix:

emgr -rL <efixlabel>

- if it is a package or a bundle of packages and you're lucky enough that they're only applied - reject the packages - i.e.

smitty reject

if all this doesn't work - you have to use restore from mksysb as duke was stating.

Depending on the fileset in question (i.e. how many dependencies there are) you could try to force installp to overwrite that fileset with the lower level. If the APAR updated just a single fileset your chances are good.
