It looks like the ID is captured from invalid ssh attempts, but NOT regular telnet attempts:

messages from telnet attempts as "test1" in authlog:

DESCRIPTION

       The  logname utility will write the user's login name to standard output. The login name is the string that would be returned by the getlo-
