I have following list of files at a path:
01.AR.asset
01.AR.index
01.AR.asset.vf
01.AR.asset.xv
I want to rename all these files as follows:
73.AR.asset.Z
73.AR.index.Z
73.AR.asset.vf.Z
73.AR.asset.xv.Z
Can any body give me a single command to acheive the above results.

Let's assume that I have a file name called ‘A' and it has 100 lines in it and would like to split these 100 lines into 4 files as specified bellow.
INPUT: Input file name A

Output: 4 output files (x,y,z,w)

I will use below command for grep single string ("osuser" is search string)
ex: find . -type f | xarg grep -il osuser
but i have one more string "v$session"
here i want to grep in which file these two strings are present.
any help is appreciated,

I have a requirement with,
No~Dt~Notes
1~2011/08/1~"aaa
bbb
ccc
ddd
eee
fff
ggg
hhh"
Single column alone got splitted into multiple lines.
I require the output as
No~Dt~Notes
1~2011/08/1~"aaa<>bbb<>ccc<>ddd<>eee<>fff<>ggg<>hhh"

I have a log directory:

/logs/err.out
I'm trying to find a way to
> /logs/*.log
> /logs/*.out
to blank them out, but of course, that doesn't work.

But what actually happens is

Update the access and modification times of each FILE to the current time. Mandatory arguments to long options are mandatory for short options too. -a change only the access time -B, --backward=SECONDS Modify the time by going back SECONDS seconds. For example, touch -r foo -B 5 bar will make the file bar 5 seconds older than file foo. -c, --no-create do not create any files -d, --date=STRING parse STRING and use it instead of current time -F, --forward=SECONDS Modify the time by going forward SECONDS seconds. For example, touch -r foo -F 5 bar will make the file bar 5 seconds newer than file foo. -f (ignored) -m change only the modification time -r, --reference=FILE use this file's times instead of current time -t STAMP use [[CC]YY]MMDDhhmm[.ss] instead of current time --time=WORD set time given by WORD: access atime use (same as -a) modify mtime (same as -m) --help display this help and exit --version output version information and exit Note that the -d and -t options accept different time-date formats.
