Hi.
I have a tab separated file that has a couple nearly identical lines. When doing:
sort file | uniq > file.new
It passes through the nearly identical lines because, well, they still are unique.

I want to look only at field x for uniqueness and if the content in field x is the... (1 Reply)
Hi,
Is there any short method to print from a particular field till another filed using awk?
Example File:
File1
====
1|2|acv|vbc|......|100|342
2|3|afg|nhj|.......|100|346
Expected output:
File2
====
acv|vbc|.....|100
afg|nhj|.....|100 (8 Replies)
Hello;
I have a file consists of 4 columns separated by tab. The problem is the third fields. Some of the them are very long but can be split by the vertical bar "|". Also some of them do not contain the string "UniProt", but I could ignore it at this moment, and sort the file afterwards. Here is... (5 Replies)
I'm trying to compare 2 files for differences in a selct number of fields. When differnces are found it will write the whole record of the second file including appending '|C' out to a delta file. Each record will have 20 fields, but only want to do comparison of 1st 15 fields. The 1st field of... (7 Replies)
Hi
I have a file as below
<field1> <field2> <field3> ... <field_num1> <field_num2>
Trying to sort based on difference of <field_num1> and <field_num2> in desceding order and print all fields.
I tried this and it doesn't sort on the difference field .. Appreciate your help.

The below code works great, kindly provided by @Don Cragun, the lines in bold print the current output. Since some of the fields printed can be blank some of the fields are shifted. I can not seem too add . to the blank fields like in the desired output. Basically, if there is nothing in the field... (10 Replies)
In the below I am trying to use awk to match all the $13 values in input, which is tab-delimited,
that are in $1 of gene which is just a single column of text.
However only the line with the greatest $9 value in input needs to be printed.
So in the example below all the MECP2 and LTBP1... (0 Replies)
In the awk below I am trying to print the entire line, along with the header row, if $2 is SNV or MNV or INDEL. If that condition is met or is true, and $3 is less than or equal to 0.05, then in $7 the sub pattern :GMAF= is found and the value after the = sign is checked. If that value is less than... Functions/Subroutines
subroutine slarrj (N, D, E2, IFIRST, ILAST, RTOL, OFFSET, W, WERR, WORK, IWORK, PIVMIN, SPDIAM, INFO)
SLARRJ performs refinement of the initial estimates of the eigenvalues of the matrix T.
Function/Subroutine Documentation
subroutine slarrj (integerN, real, dimension( * )D, real, dimension( * )E2, integerIFIRST, integerILAST, realRTOL, integerOFFSET, real,
dimension( * )W, real, dimension( * )WERR, real, dimension( * )WORK, integer, dimension( * )IWORK, realPIVMIN, realSPDIAM, integerINFO)
SLARRJ performs refinement of the initial estimates of the eigenvalues of the matrix T.
Purpose:
Given the initial eigenvalue approximations of T, SLARRJ
does bisection to refine the eigenvalues of T,
W( IFIRST-OFFSET ) through W( ILAST-OFFSET ), to more accuracy. Initial
guesses for these eigenvalues are input in W, the corresponding estimate
of the error in these guesses in WERR. During bisection, intervals
[left, right] are maintained by storing their mid-points and
semi-widths in the arrays W and WERR respectively.
Parameters:
N
N is INTEGER
The order of the matrix.
D
D is REAL array, dimension (N)
The N diagonal elements of T.
E2
E2 is REAL array, dimension (N-1)
The Squares of the (N-1) subdiagonal elements of T.
IFIRST
IFIRST is INTEGER
The index of the first eigenvalue to be computed.
ILAST
ILAST is INTEGER
The index of the last eigenvalue to be computed.
RTOL
RTOL is REAL
Tolerance for the convergence of the bisection intervals.
An interval [LEFT,RIGHT] has converged if
RIGHT-LEFT.LT.RTOL*MAX(|LEFT|,|RIGHT|).
OFFSET
OFFSET is INTEGER
Offset for the arrays W and WERR, i.e., the IFIRST-OFFSET
through ILAST-OFFSET elements of these arrays are to be used.
W
W is REAL array, dimension (N)
On input, W( IFIRST-OFFSET ) through W( ILAST-OFFSET ) are
estimates of the eigenvalues of L D L^T indexed IFIRST through
ILAST.
On output, these estimates are refined.
WERR
WERR is REAL array, dimension (N)
On input, WERR( IFIRST-OFFSET ) through WERR( ILAST-OFFSET ) are
the errors in the estimates of the corresponding elements in W.
On output, these errors are refined.
WORK
WORK is REAL array, dimension (2*N)
Workspace.
IWORK
IWORK is INTEGER array, dimension (2*N)
Workspace.
PIVMIN
PIVMIN is REAL
The minimum pivot in the Sturm sequence for T.
SPDIAM
SPDIAM is REAL
The spectral diameter of T.
INFO
INFO is INTEGER
Error flag.
