The screen resolution of the laptop is 1600x900. It should at least get close to that. I was able to figure out yesterday that for RHEL6.3, the xorg.conf file is no longer there (this was a way to manually set resolutions for internal and external screens). So I had to find an alternative and found all this information on xrandr, which i was able to manipulate in order to add the resolutions that I wanted. But I feel that if xorg is more automated, Red Hat should provide some sort of way to fix this issue. Any thoughts?

I have installed Solaris 10 over vmware onto my machine. Now when I want to change my screen resolution it only has one option which is 800x600. Is there a way to change that to a bigger resollution? And if there is, what file do I have to edit and what text editor do I have to use? (1 Reply)

NAME

       cvt - calculate VESA CVT mode lines

SYNOPSIS

       cvt [-v|--verbose] [-r|--reduced] h-resolution v-resolution [refresh]

DESCRIPTION

       Cvt  is	a  utility for calculating VESA Coordinated Video Timing modes.  Given the desired horizontal and vertical resolutions, a modeline
       adhering to the CVT standard is printed. This modeline can be included in Xorg xorg.conf(5)

OPTIONS

       refresh Provide a vertical refresh rate in Hz.  The CVT standard prefers either 50.0, 60.0, 75.0 or 85.0Hz.  The default is 60.0Hz.

       -v|--verbose
	       Warn verbosely when a given mode does not completely correspond with CVT standards.

       -r|--reduced
	       Create a mode with reduced blanking.  This allows for higher frequency signals, with a lower or equal dotclock. Not for Cathode Ray
	       Tube based displays though.
