I have a script which connects to remote server and ftp the files
It works fine, however if there is any failure in ftp connection can it be handled???

Hi ,
Can any one tell me is there any standard method to track errors during sftp ?
using which command i can track sftp errors ? i tried using echo $? .
Most of the times i am getting error number 127 ,1, 255. whether it is constant numbers ?

I have this segment of code :
cmd = "finger -m " $1 " 2>/dev/null | head -1"
cmd | getline userinfo
close(cmd)
Sometimes finger returns no such user when given a user id.
With the redirection to the default trash file i am getting rid of any screen "finger:no such user" messages.

I have a PERL command line embedded in a UNIX script. The script doesn't handle errors coming out of this command. I'm processing large files and occassionally I run out of disk space and end up with half a file.
perl -p -e 's/\n/\r\n/g' < TR_TMP_$4 > $4

Below code works for different databases i.e. MYSQL and ORACLE
The problem is for MYSQL in Block: if ; $? taking value accordingly but in case of ORACLE $? is always taking this value as zero (0).
That is the reason in Oracle it always going in else Block in any case.. :(

ximtoppm - convert an Xim file into a portable pixmap SYNOPSIS
ximtoppm [--alphaout={alpha-filename,-}] [ximfile] DESCRIPTION
Reads an Xim file as input. Produces a portable pixmap as output. The Xim toolkit is included in the contrib tree of the X.V11R4 release. OPTIONS
--alphaout=alpha-filename ximtoppm creates a PGM (portable graymap) file containing the alpha channel values in the input image. If the input image doesn't contain an alpha channel, the alpha-filename file contains all zero (transparent) alpha values. If you don't specify --alphaout, ximtoppm does not generate an alpha file, and if the input image has an alpha channel, ximtoppm simply discards it. If you specify - as the filename, ximtoppm writes the alpha output to Standard Output and discards the image. Actually, an Xim image can contain an arbitrary fourth channel -- it need not be an Alpha channel. ximtoppm extracts any fourth channel it finds as described above; it doesn't matter if it is an alpha channel or not. See pnmcomp(1) for one way to use the alpha output file. All options can be abbreviated to their shortest unique prefix. SEE ALSO
