You have probably hit some character special file that has a readlock on it. You don't want to read tty files anyway. This returns the names of file with the string 'foobar' in them.

.. but here I like to examine the file if in contain the desired string

Since my gopher server doesn't like filenames containing 2 or more consecutive dots in a filename, I'd like to do a search for them and replace them with... well, let's say underscores...

Return the value of the constant indicated by $name.
constant(3) is useful if you need to retrieve the value of a constant, but do not know its name. I.e. it is stored in a variable or
returned by a function.
This function works also with class constants.
PARAMETERS
o $name
- The constant name.
RETURN VALUES
Returns the value of the constant, or NULL if the constant is not defined.
ERRORS /EXCEPTIONS
An E_WARNING level error is generated if the constant is not defined.
