I noticed that the MAC addresses of other devices on my home network was listed in the set up of the Belkin router. I added the MAC address of the ASUS EeePC900A and the problem was solved. I can now send data between my home network and the Laptop. I did not think I had to do this because anyone can bring a laptop which has Windows on it and sign into my home network without me having to add their MAC address to the router set up. Thanks to all who responded with ideas. The problem is solved. I am surprised that Belkin tecchnical help did not relay that bit of information to me.
