The output file is empty. Please Help

Dear all,

Currently I writing a ksh script to perform some sql query. I already pipe results in a output file. But when I checked it, the output file is empty.

Below is part of the script that I wrote:

------------------------------------------------------------------------

function ssttal11
{
echo "Enter username for the database"
read username

echo "Enter password for the database"
read password

echo "Enter SQL statement"
read sqlstatement

SQL_PLUS_COMMAND="/app/oracle/bin/sqlplus -s ${username}/${password}@ssttal11"

statement=${sqlstatement}

echo "$statement" | $SQL_PLUS_COMMAND
echo "$statement" | $SQL_PLUS_COMMAND > /migration/folder_a/sql_query.out
}

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Do I left anything else? The code seems fine. But it doesn't shows the sql query results in the sql_query.out

Appreciate you all if can help me on this.

Thank you.
